Intro to Recipes

Hiya! Welcome to the Recipe section of Honest Foods!

Ironically, despite the lengths I can get into when it comes to my recipes (I’ll try to keep them as short as possible!) and especially my reviews, this ‘About the Recipes’ section of this site was probably the hardest thing to do. I guess I can start off with an introduction?

Hi. I’m Dimitri and in my free time, I cook. No, I’m not a chef and have ABSOLUTELY ZERO background in culinary, but I do love to eat and that’s pretty much how I got here. It all started when I questioned why was I paying RM30 for noodles and oil (aglio olio is by far my favourite pasta of all time) in a restaurant? So I tried giving it a go at home, and thanks to my OCD it surprisingly wasn’t too bad, and after a few more tries, much better than a lot of places to be honest (we didn’t have a lot of good Italian restaurants in Malaysia back in 2012). Over time I became obsessed with recreating and perfecting my other favourite dishes and well, the cooking saga began. So in a nutshell, what you’re getting is the final product of many, many, many…past trials and errors (and tears. Lots of tears… Oh what a beautiful thing obsession can be.) so that you don’t have to go through them yourself. Trust me. You don’t!

As for my cooking styles? I don’t really know to be honest. I think it’s safe to say that I don’t have one? I mean Italian is my favourite cuisine so those were the first few (hundred) dishes I ventured into. Pretty much. But now I’m all over the place.  So that’s more or less what you’re going to see when it comes to the recipe section here in Honest Foods. Lots of Italian, Japanese, Middle Eastern and Korean inspired dishes, amongst other things. But these four have been my main sources of inspiration over the years. I’ve recently got into cooking a lot of Indian food but we’ll get to that when we get to that.

Anyway, fast forward to very long and overdue 8 years later…I thought I’d finally share some of the things I’ve learnt along the way with you guys. I know now everyone has the time (or can be arsed) to go the extra mile when it comes to cooking sometimes so I’ve tried to keep the recipes as simple as possible, with a few wild cards here and there for you guys to geek-out to on the side if you’re feeling adventurous(like I do all the time). The recipes may look lengthy but trust me, they’re simple. I’m just trying to give you as much details as needed so you don’t crack your head trying to figure out if you’re going in the right direction or not. That being said, if you’ve got any recipes of your own you’d like to share, please do. It would be great to learn from you guys too!

This is probably the worst ‘About’ section you’ll ever find on any food page as when it comes to having a literary flare, I have none. Anyway I hope the recipes you find here will do you one better! Happy cooking!!!
